BACKGROUND

After retirement from the army in 1992 and 1994,Special Service under General Salim Sal-eh got a contract to clear the water hyacinth which had become a hazard at the Port Bell Terminal preventing ships from docking .In this,he mobilized us to come and help in the removing of the water hyacinth since we almost had nothing to do.
After the contract which ran from 1996 up to 1998,Matovu Badro came up with an idea to of starting up a company. With only 12 members, the began a company which they called Port Bell veterans Development Company Limited.
After that step,he started planning of were the company was to have its offices.Through Kampala City Council,we were allowed to put a temporary market. This was the first business the company set up.After 2 years,Kampala city council demarcated the right place for a market.Since ours was temporary and on a road reserve,K.C.C told us to leave the meters which encroached the road reserve.Peacefully we extended off the road reserve and put up our offices and store.
During that same year,Uganda Breweries had an urgency of place to build a water treatment tank. before disposing them in the Lake.Uganda breweries came in since our market was just on their perimeter compensated the company with 30 millions shillings.
With the profits we had got from the market and that package,we banked it for 1 year trying to find what we can do.
Ideas were very many from the 12 members, others wanted the company to go into business in town, others wanted us buy a car do taxi.
Matovu Badro proposed to start up a beach on the shores of lake Victoria. We applied for a land which belonged to the government from Lc1,11,111, up to the Town Clerk.
Positively, the Town Clerk replied and gave ug a go ahead but gave conditions to maintain hygiene.
From there,we started a beach and agreed to name it Miami sand Beach. It is a trade wing of Port Bell Veterans Development Company Limited.
